    Real Ales, Good Food & Log Fires this is what we offer our guests when they come in to visit us. All are welcome for a pint, for a snack or for a meal.

    Our ales are sourced from local breweries, we use the famous Coniston Brewery to give our guests the ever popular Coniston Blue Bird, we have the award winning Loweswater Gold supplied from Cumbrian Legendary Ales just across the water in Hawkshead and we regularly change our third pump for other local brewers.

    Our food is hearty and very tasty, food to fill you up after a hard day of walking on the Lake District Fells. We can cater for groups out for a days walking or visiting Beatrix Potters Hill Top Farm, just give us a call and we can design a menu to suit your dietary requirements & budget. We supply from local Lake District producers and change our menu with the seasons. A warm welcome is always to be had, so pull up a chair next to the central log burning stove and enjoy relaxing in our bar.

    The Stables are open for guests who want to enjoy the historical aspect of the Inn, cosy stalls and wood beams offer a little haven for a quiet pint or coffee. Games are available down here for all the family.

    Introducing our Head Chef, Loredan Gargalac

    Originally from Bucharest Romania, Loredan has over 30 years experience in international gastronomy. He is the first Romanian Head Chef in the UK to be awarded an AA Rosette for Culinary Excellence.

    After a journey of 2 years in Culinary Art School in Bucharest at age of 16, he started working as second chef at the Hotel Bucuresti - one of the best hotels in Romania! Six years of hard work and a love for cooking, respect of ingredients, discipline and attention to detail led him to take on the challenge of his first Head Chef position at the age of 22 and never looked back. He was appointed Head Chef at Der Watzenhof Relais Du Silence Hotel in Germany.

    17 years ago, Loredan settled in the UK where he started working alongside Executive Chef Martin Carter at The Stapleford Park Country House Hotel in Melton Mowbray where he developed the skills and understanding of Modern British Cuisine and fell in love with the idea of cooking with local and fresh ingredients.

    Loredan is the proud owner of numerous awards and achieviments. He won the RAC Fine Dining Award in 2003 working as Head Chef for The Cotswold Inn Hotels. Loredan was also an important key of the winning team for the AA Best Seafood Restaurant UK 2004-2005 and a prestigious Remy Award at The Crab at Chieveley 2AA Rosette Restaurant in Berkshire. He also took part in the Henley Food Festival with Raymond Blanc and Antony Worrall Thomson and many other celebrity chefs. During his time in the UK, Loredan has been awarded with an AA Rosette For Culinary Excellence for four years on a round at different locations, 3 x 1 AA Rosette and 1 x 2AA Rosette.

    His vast experience, knowledge and love for food doesn’t stop there and we’re delighted he has joined our team at the Cuckoo Brow Inn. Loredan is producing exciting menus using fresh and locally sourced ingredients.
