Here at The Cuckoo Brow Inn, we aim to ensure that all of our guests have access to comfortable facilities and are made to feel welcome. We have developed this access statement to address some of the more common issues that disabled people face. The access statement is intended to provide additional information for all guests who wish to attend the hotel or use its facilities.
The Cuckoo Brow Inn is an independently owned inn in the little village of Far Sawrey. It has 14 en suite bedrooms with a dining/bar area on the main entry of the building level. We have one disabled room situated on the ground floor equipped with a functional, access friendly en suite.
Take the Ferry
The Windmere Car Ferry runs all year round every 20 minutes, a short crossing from Bowness leads you to our side of the lake. Simply drive up the hill from the ferry landing, following the signs to Hawkshead and you will find us at the top of the hill on the right hand side. To board the ferry you must purchase a ticket from the machine prior to boarding. You must have the correct change ready, £4.40 for a car, 50p for foot passengers. The machine will also accept card.
Drive via Newby Bridge
Coming off the A590 at Newby Bridge take the road leading down the Westside of the lake, follow the road along the lake shore passing through Lakeside and Graythwaite. The road will offer you directions to Hawkshead, follow these. Once you arrive in Hawkshead you will see signs directing you the Car Ferry, follow these signs are you will pass through the village of Near Sawrey and a further mile on you will find us on your left hand side.
Drive via Ambleside
Coming into Ambleside follow the road directions to Hawkshead. The road to Hawkshead is lovely drive through beautiful Lake District country side. The drive should take around 20 minutes. Once you arrive in Hawkshead you will see signs directing you the Car Ferry, follow these signs are you will pass through the village of Near Sawrey and a further mile on you will find us on your left hand side.
There are many local taxi firms, which we can provide you with details of or book on your behalf if travelling from abroad. You will also find a location map of where to find us on our website.
The main entrance has a small raise, which is clearly marked, but is still disabled friendly.
We offer assistance with luggage on request.
Main Entrance and Reception
The Main Entrance leads to Reception, Lobby and Bar/Restaurant.
The Bar/Restaurant is level and has wood flooring throughout.
The Reception is on the ground floor located right near the main entrance leading into the Lobby area. This area is a mix of wooden flooring, tiles and carpet.
Our corridors are well lit and mixed between carpet or Lino.
The Bar is accessible from the Main Entrance on the same level.
The Restaurant is accessible from the Main Entrance on the same level.
The Lobby area is located near the main entrance and is equipped with comfortable sitting area from the main entrance on the same level.
We have 1 disable friendly toilet just off from the Lobby area near the main entrance.
The fire alarm system is a siren and does not have flashing lights.
Assistance will be given in the event of an evacuation.
All rooms have baths and showers
Disabled bedroom incorporates walk in shower and adapted bathroom, light switches and plugs.
All rooms have grab rails and non slip bath mats in bathrooms on request.
